Signing is speaking

Our not so little T looking stylish with his ears from Great Wolf Lodge!

Yesterday was Baby’s 18 month checkup. Can you believe it? I guess I can’t call him Baby anymore… I guess we’ll call him T then. Sorry for not keeping up, things have just been so fast moving! Lots of updates to come I swear. But something got me so stirred up yesterday I just had to get it out.

Being Mommy’s and Daddy’s you all know how those check ups go. Nurse walks you in and does all those fun vitals. Height, weight, head circumference, temp, etc. Then they ask you some questions to see how they are doing developmentally. So when she asked us if he’s says at least 15 words, it didn’t even occur to me to flinch. Continue reading

Baltic Amber What?

Reading one of his favorite books. Sesame Street's Nighty-Night.

As you know, we struggle with baby boy’s incoming teeth. They cause him so much pain, but Hyland’s Teething Tablets made such a huge difference. Now he has molars coming in and he digs so hard at his face that he just shreds his little cheek. So back to the mommy blogs I went looking for an answer besides drugging him with Motrin and Teething Tablets all day. I keep seeing multiple moms talk about Baltic Amber Teething Necklaces. It’s nothing he chews on, just something you put around their neck and some VooDoo magic comes in and makes it all better (If I tried to actually explain it, it would be much worse than this). If you want the real explanation you can read it here on Amber by Amanda. So lots of research (and reviews) later, I found one on Amazon that I decided to try with the intention of returning it once I realized it wasn’t working… Continue reading

Oh Temper Tantrums – how I’m done with you already

Just wants his sippy straw bottle with his milk in it, his Disney Junior, and his Elmo chair.

I’m a new mom, that’s obvious. And when he cries a terrible pain takes over my whole body, and I just want to do everything I can to make him happy again…. until now. We’ve suddenly hit this magic change where he sits on the floor and cries big fat tears over nothing. At first I was freaking out thinking something was obviously wrong. I’d pick him up and it would be over in seconds. Then I realized it only happened after I told him no, took something away that he shouldn’t have been playing with, or if I’m taking too long with his bottle.  Continue reading

One Year – Big Changes

You mean you don't eat your cake like this?

My little guy turned one. How did that happen? He’s walking, showing interest in EVERYTHING, climbing, not quite talking but able to give you an idea of what he wants. I can’t believe that just a year ago we were worried about O2 and glucose levels and when, if ever, he would come home. I can’t believe how in 1 year Watson and I went from being nervous new parents to running around an indoor jungle gym chasing after baby boy.  Continue reading

Bananas, Yoga, and Nannies. Oh my!

Playing in the snow... or death gripping mommy's hand while we stomp our shoes in it and bend down and touch the wet white stuff.... you decide.

It’s been such a long time since I’ve been able to sit down and write a post. Too long. But so much has been happening in this cramped little house of ours.

To start with good news, we found out why our little guy’s skin had gotten so bad. On bad news, I found out I’ve been poisoning him pretty much since we started feeding him solids. We’ve always spoon fed him, but recently we’ve started letting him try to pick up pieces of his food. So instead of mashing up his banana, we decided to cut it up into chunks and let him touch it. Don’t you know his poor little hands broke out so red and swollen. His face and every part of his head that he touched broke out terribly. It’s so frustrating! Just when I think I’ve got it figured out, it all blows up on me again. Bananas. Are you freaking kidding me? And you know what? Continue reading

Teething Tablets

This is our boy an hour after we gave him Hyland's Baby Teething Tablets.

Thanks to a couple of great women (I’m looking at you Tad and Meg), I tried out Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets. I was so nervous to give him something without discussing it with his doctor, especially because of his skin.  I talked to my mom, as well as a few friends, and received mixed reviews. Some said it was a welcome relief to their little one, and others said they noticed no improvement. What I did not receive, was one mention of a negative impact on their child. So we bought some the next day and gave them to him before dinner.  Continue reading

A Bad Day

On his good days, when the teeth aren't so bad, he loves to be up and walking on his own!

Today was a bad day. Baby boy is cutting 3 teeth (that I can see) at once and it’s getting the better of us both. He’s miserable and only wants to be held, but he doesn’t want you to sit down and hold him. I am exhausted, my arms hurt, and I can’t listen to him cry anymore. It took an hour to get him down for bed tonight and he’s waking up every half an hour crying. Just when we were making progress with this whole sleep training thing. My nerves are frayed from listening to him cry so much. I feel helpless, but worse, I feel frustrated. Continue reading
