So Glad They Told Me

If you don’t already follow Katia from IAMTHEMILK or Yummy Mummy Club, here is just another reason to get over there and check her out.  She’s spreading the word about a new campaign that sinks home with me, especially tonight.

I’ve recently become aware of a campaign initiated by a fellow blogger mom, Stephanie Sprenger, at Mommy, for Real designed to embrace the validity of the different ways in which we experience parenting and to uplift those of us who are struggling with its less glamorous moments. Stephanie launched her campaign yesterday with the twitter hashtag #sogladtheytoldme and asked some of her fellow blogger moms to participate by sharing their own experiences concerning parental challenges their friends warned them about in advance.

Missing in Action

His first time playing in the leaves!

Wow.  Can you believe it’s been 3 weeks since my last post?  You’d think I fell off the face of the earth!  Between doctors appointments, vacation, and teething we’ve been going crazy over here.

We spent a wonderful week in Lake Placid enjoying the fresh air and the view of mountains covered in colorful trees.  Unfortunately we found that our little guy does not like sleeping in the pack and play overnight. I actually think we came home more tired than when we left!   But he loves watching the leaves all over the ground and certainly enjoyed the change of scenery.  A big surprise for us was the amount of hair that started coming in on his head finally!

My baby boy had his 6 month checkup with the doctors office (shots included).   His skin has been slowly improving, but his legs are still terrible.  Doctor told us they aren’t healing because he has another skin infection.  Just a couple days after the antibiotics and his legs are looking great!!  But can I just tell you… I have never found myself so mad with a nurse before.  I’m sure you’ll agree that there is a difference between “owie” crying, and “holy god that really hurts” screaming.  The agony on his face and the noise of that tiny little body instantly ripped me into peices.  When the nurse pulled the needle out of his leg, it started a river of blood down his leg immediately.  And to make it worse, she bruised him at both injection sites on the one little leg.  Now I realize that these immunizations are for his well being, but damn lady!  You don’t need to stick the needle that deep!  He’s all of 26 pounds!  I probably ranted about this for 3 days I was so upset.  My little guy?  He was over it as soon as the Motrin kicked in and had a good cuddle with his momma.

And finally, teething. Ugh. Is there anything worse?  Feeling him tense up and scream with pain when it is at it’s worst literally kills me inside.  If you don’t know what a Razbaby RaZ-berry Teether is, go find one.  It made such a huge difference for him.  He likes to grab onto the handle and munch on that poor little sucker anyway he can.  He sticks to each side, bites down and pulls it out, anything that simply makes him feel better.  He even recognizes it now and starts chewing on it the second you put it near his face.

So that has been this little family’s adventures.  It’s been hard getting back into a routine, but we finally are getting back to our rhythm.  I hope you’ve all been enjoying your own little adventures!  I have lots of blog posts to catch up on!

Big Day Ahead – Daily Prompt

Someone loves breakfast!

It’s the night before an important event: a big exam, a major presentation, your wedding. How do you calm your nerves in preparation for the big day?

I plan everything to a tee and leave nothing to chance.   But I always double check everything with everyone to make sure there is no confusion for the event.  But no matter the event, I always calm my nerves the same way.  Friends and family.   Continue reading

Autumn Leaves – WordPress Daily Post

We already knew he favored apples over all other foods we've tried. Let him suck on an apple and he went crazy! Wouldn't let it go!

Changing colors, dropping temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes: do these mainstays of Fall fill your heart with warmth — or with dread?

Today officially marks the first day of autumn!!  I love fall.  I personally cannot stand the hot, sweaty, muggy, miserable weather that is summer.  During the summer i find myself missing the growing beauty that is spring, or longing for the leaves to begin changing.  There is something so relaxing and refreshing about changing leaves, cooling weather, and apple flavored everything.  Even the smell of the air is calming.

I know I still have another week of September…. but those Halloween decorations are coming out!  I’m such a family person, and being such, I love every holiday that encourages family activity. Continue reading

Liebster Award Nominee

I was nominated by Meaningful Mommy!

I had a big surprise waiting for me in my inbox.  The wonderful meaningful mommy nominated me for a Liebster Award!  As I am fairly new to the blogging world, I had no idea what this was.  According to her:

It is an award for new bloggers with less than 200 followers. It is a way to hopefully get your blog out there to share all it has to offer.

Here are the Official Rules for accepting the Liebster Award:

 1. Answer the questions given and then come up with 10 new ones to ask your nominations.

2. Nominate 8 other blogs, let them know you have nominated them and put a link to their blog in your post.

3. No Tag backs.

4. Nominations must have under 200 followers.

5. You must tell all the blogs that you nominate that you have nominated them.

So even though this is a non-achievement award, I’m still pretty stoked. Not only because she has a great blog, but because I’m nominated with many other wonderful bloggers!   Continue reading

My Dear Watson – WP Writing Challenge

We got to fit in one unscheduled dance at our wedding. A moment to just breath during the chaos. He has always been that moment for me.

So I recently tripped over The Daily Post, and found this nifty little section for Writing Challenges.  What a wonderful idea!  So why not participate?  This week’s was called My Dear Watson:

Life just isn’t the same without your trusty sidekick. For this week’s writing challenge, tell us about your partner in crime.

What a perfect way to brag a little about my “Watson”!  I should probably start with some background though, huh?  My husband and I met at my brother’s boy scout meeting.  My parents were divorced so my dad would drag me along to the meetings held in a church.  I would sit in the hallway with a book and read while the meeting went on, and wait “patiently” to go home.  I couldn’t tell you how many meetings I went to, there were too many.  But one day out of nowhere my future husband came up to me and we just started chatting… and we never stopped.

Let’s try this

How do you cope?  Life is so full of challenges and struggles every day and each person has their own way of processing.  I am lucky to be surrounded by friends and family that get me and are there for me, but not everyone has that.  This blog is part of my coping mechanism.  Life sucks and sometimes you need to see it written plainly in front of you.  Part of surviving each challenge is realizing that even though this part of life’s adventure sucks, not only does someone else have it worse but that this will not last forever.
